Today is a defining moment for our company – and for the commodities industry.

ClearDox has become ClearOpx™. This is a change of name that reflects a fundamental shift in how operations are run across commodities and energy trading. Driving this shift is the launch of the ClearOpx Operations Trade Risk Management (OTRM™) Platform, establishing the foundation for end-to-end operational automation across the trade lifecycle.

The Strategic Reinvention of Commodity Trading Operations

Throughout the first quarter of 2026, the ClearOpx™ team spoke with executives from a wide range of commodity trading and energy firms. Across those conversations, a consistent theme began to emerge: as trading portfolios grow larger and more complex, operational visibility is becoming increasingly important to risk management and commercial decision-making.

The message surfaced repeatedly at industry gatherings, including Commodity Trading Week APAC, where firms were already discussing how difficult it can be to understand operational exposure quickly when markets move.

Before the end of the quarter, those concerns were reinforced by events in the Middle East, which once again forced trading firms to rapidly assess exposure across cargoes, vessels, contracts, and counterparties.

Finance Optimization Automated by ClearOpx

By Irina Reitgruber and originally published on CTRMCenter.

Shipments of commodities are typically followed by the preparation of the documents required under a letter of credit (LC) to ensure payment. A number of different documents must be collected, checked for compliance with the LC terms, and then submitted to a bank for payment. These documents may include, among others, a bill of lading, insurance certificate, certificate of origin, and additional supporting documentation. Collecting and reviewing these documents is a complex manual process for those dealing with trade financing. However, modern technology has the potential to significantly improve this workflow.

Recently, I had the opportunity to see a demonstration by ClearOpx of an AI-powered solution for automated processing of documentation under letters of credit. What I saw can be summarized as follows.

From Digitization to Automation: The Origins of ClearOpx and Our Continuing Evolution

By Rick Nelson, CEO, ClearOpx

When we started ClearOpx, we were not trying to build an “AI company.”

We were trying to solve a very practical problem that anyone who has worked in commodity trading operations knows well: critical information lives in documents, not systems, and that gap creates operational cost and risk.

Contracts, confirmations, bills of lading, inspection reports, invoices, letters of credit. All arrive in different formats, from different counterparties, at different times, and with different assumptions embedded in them. Operations teams have been left to reconcile all of this manually, often under time pressure, and with the knowledge that the accuracy and completeness of their work can affect the ultimate financial value of a trade.

Our earliest work focused on one thing: turning commodity documents into usable data. If you cannot reliably extract and normalize the information that governs a trade, everything downstream – reconciliation, settlement, compliance, cash flow – is inherently fragile.

That docs-to-data foundation still matters. But over time, something became increasingly clear. The problem was less about documents and more about creating operational automation that is designed to reveal risk hiding in plain sight.

Automation of complex workflows is becoming essential for commodity companies. It reduces manual effort, decreases error rates, accelerates processes, and allows staff to focus on high-value activities. In today’s fast-moving market, this efficiency as well as ability to identify and processes risk insights are a significant competitive advantage.

AI Adoption in Back Office Commodity Workflows

By Jonathan Alger, Head of Customer Success and Co-Founder, ClearOpx

I recently had the opportunity to join Michelle Bruce, Partner at Optimus, in a discussion hosted by Irina Reitgriber, Affiliate Analyst at Commodity Technology Advisory, on CTRM Radio. Our topics were the role of artificial intelligence in back office operations and the growing significance of what we at ClearOpx call “commodity intelligence” – data insights that identify errors, reduce risk, and reveal opportunities.

The conversation reinforced what many of us already sense: artificial intelligence is no longer a distant vision or executive buzzword. It is entering the mainstream of how commodity businesses manage complexity, protect revenue, and drive growth. Given this evolution, it’s inevitable that speculation about the potential of the technology gives way to more prosaic questions about implementation, compliance, team adaptation, and business objectives.

In this post, I’ll share some of the key points from our discussion and give you my takeaways on what they mean for commodity business that are thinking about AI.

Energy Trading Week (ETW) Americas continues to serve as a critical pulse-check for the commodities industry. This year’s event delivered timely insights into how energy and commodity firms are evolving their operations amidst rising complexity and pressure.

While high-level discussions ranged from market volatility to geopolitics and regulatory challenges, one consistent theme emerged: Technology is the key to unlocking data management, process automation, and risk mitigation in commodities operations.

How AI Is Redefining Risk in Commodity Operations

On Oct. 16, 2025, Commodities People hosted "AI at the Tipping Point," a webinar that explored why inaction is now the biggest operational risk facing commodity trading firms. Howard Walker, CP’s CEO Americas, moderated a lively panel discussion that included Nate Branscom, COO of 61 Commodities; Michelle Bruce, Partner at Optimus; and me.

What emerged from the discussion—and from live polling of the audience—is that most firms are caught between the challenges associated with AI adoption and the risk of falling behind. I wanted to share some highlights from the discussion, but I encourage you to watch the full webinar.

How Leading Commodity Firms Are Using Agentic AI in Operations

AI is everywhere, but how useful is it to your commodities trading operations?

That's what the Commodity Technology Advisory's (CTA) "AI in Energy and Commodities" report wanted to find out.

The report, which we contributed to, cuts through the hype to examine where artificial intelligence is actually delivering results in commodity trading operations. Based on surveys, interviews, and industry analysis, the report identifies six key AI use case groups—from information services and predictive analytics to document processing and natural language system control—and evaluates their real-world penetration, benefits, and concerns.

The key finding? AI is most effective today in information processing, predictive analytics, and workflow automation. These are the areas where companies are seeing real ROI and building trust in AI systems. Meanwhile, coding assistance and full decision automation are lagging due to risk and governance concerns (which is understandable when a wrong decision can cost millions.)

Here's a look at the use cases the report covers, how they align with our mission, and what the report leaves out.

A fundamental shift is underway in commodity trading operations.

At Energy Trading Week (ETW) Europe 2025 in London, the conversation has moved beyond whether to explore AI. The focus now: how quickly and effectively can firms implement intelligent automation to solve long-standing operational challenges.

ClearOpx CTO Marc Lefebvre, speaking on the panel "Transforming Risk Management: Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities in Emerging Technologies," emphasized that operational risk is no longer a background concern — it's a strategic priority. What used to be dismissed as inefficiency is now recognized as a core contributor to financial and compliance exposure.
